PEER-TO-PEER SUPERVISION: Anchoring into the ‘I’

PEER-TO-PEER SUPERVISION:
ANCHORING INTO THE ‘I’

The intent and Purpose of this supervision session is to explore with the group various ways, strategies, techniques and specific tools we use as professionals to anchor the “new awareness” emerging as we work with clients into the ‘I’, and how we also anchor ourselves into the ‘I’.

In order to participate, please be prepared to present a case for supervision and feedback in a peer to peer discussion format, through a spirit and mindset of Presence as a foundation of the process of “Explore, Expand, Empower” toward more ‘I’, then anchoring this awareness as a new way of Being.

As an example, we may explore how the problem of transference and countertransference can arise as we, as Guides, resonate with our clients through empathy, and how we manage these situations in realtime during the session so that the session closes with the client feeling empowered, rather than disempowered by the transfer/countertransfer process.

Our role as Guides is to immediately step outside this “danger zone” of transference/countertransference, and the accompanying emotional reaction when this feeling arises during the session. We have to be in the neutral and free space of the I/Self and from there, as Observer and Director of the contents and context become the external Self for the traveller (the coachee/client), or as described in Psychosynthesis, we become the External Unifying Center. This process leads to a re-orientation of the client toward him/herself, and by resonating in the sacred space of the Self, the client acquires a new awareness, a new vision of the situation, becoming more resilient and aligned with his/her Purpose. Our role is to enable the anchoring of this awareness into the ‘I’ of the client.

From there, we move onward, holding the space where the transpersonal process of Synthesis occurs, passing from a “fixed” mindset within which we are downloading data (being “stuck”), to a “growth” mindset characterized by the ability to listen and choosing to follow the “Call of the Self” with open mind, open heart, and open will. This is the state of Presencing, described in the Theory U (Otto Sharmer), having disidentified ourself and the client from the content limiting the perspective.

Facilitated by Cristina Pelizzatti: Cris dedicated her youth to climbing high mountains in the Alps where she is currently living, appreciating the beauty of the wilderness and the beauty of Art, being a “daughter of the Arts” (her father was an architect and multifaceted artist: http://www.eliopelizzatti.it, growing up between a small mountain village and the cosmopolitan world of her grandmother in Paris. She raced sleddog professionally for more than 20 years at world championship levels, a sport that brought her in contact with wilderness nature and intense work with beautiful Siberian Huskies and Wolves for more than 30 years, in Europe and North America.

During a series of life-changing events she resumed her passion for the study of the psyche, concentrating on the Transpersonal aspects, attaining a Masters in Indovedic Psychology as a foundation for subsequent Masters level studies in Psychosynthesis Counseling, Transpersonal Counseling, EcoCounseling (Ecopsychology applied in Counseling) and Psychoenergetics in Counseling. She has specialisations in Green Coaching (Life Coaching in Echopsychology- following a curriculum she developed with a colleague from the Ecopsychology school in Italy), has recently completed a further specialization as a Certified Resilience Practitioner, and is currently studying the “Foundation of Positive Psychology” with Penn University.

When not engaging with coaching clients on-line or in in person in her “natural” setting in the Orobian Alps, she also works as a Psychosynthesis Counselor. Since 2011 she is a volunteer at the pediatric department in the local hospital and conducts training sessions for volunteers working with pediatric patients as well as designing and conducting classes in Ecopsychology at a local school.

Trainer, practitioner and researcher, she brings into Synthesis the reconnection with our Self, through Nature, working in person, with groups, in educational and vocational settings, and on-line.

Certified Psychosynthesis Life Coach with The Synthesis Center (TSC), and Staff Member of TSC, Cris is co-founder and lead instructor of The Synthesis Center’s TransAlpine program currently providing a unique opportunity for Certified Psychosynthesis Life Coach training in the Italian language.

PEER DISCUSSION GROUP Evoking Presence, Exploring Purpose: Unfolding the “I-space” in Service of Self

The theme for this session’s conversation is Presence, that quality, process, way of being that when cultivated through Awareness and Will transforms the present moment. Whether we’re evoking Presence as part of our own “work within the work”, holding the space for a fellow Traveler (as Guides are all Travelers too!), or simply being in the moment when faced with the difficulties of life, taking the time for Presence, I feel from experience that developing techniques for Presence to emerge is central to any Psychosynthesist’s path.

It is in Presence, through Awareness and Will, that we come to hold compassionately our old stories/scripts, limiting beliefs, Subs (inc MMS), Psychological Function defaults, and those wounds/traumas we carry.

In this session the intention is to share our experiences of embodying the qualities that inform the “I” that Presence is, well, present! The core  model I’ll be referring us all back (and forward) to is the Egg, and the Field of Awareness from which Presence emerges.

We can group-explore practical methods/meditations on evoking Presence, and share those experiences in-session.

“I’m from England, UK, working part-time as a Psychosynthesis Coach and Hypnotherapist, working with people in a ‘Life Transitions Coaching’ frame for the past c.4 years.

I live in Nottingham in the Midlands, and I’ve been subjected to the usual suite of Robin Hood puns. So that’s the semi-professional intro out of the way, time for some extras.

My previous career in IT as a business consultant for 12 years, since late 2005, and before making that career choice, I was a post-graduate researcher in ancient environmental and climate change.

My background prior to that was in (mainly) prehistoric field archaeology, with a big helping of human evolution/paleontology. I loved the research work, especially the field work, as I was (note the was) a mountaineer. Turning a little serious for a moment, I took a pretty big tumble off Ben Nevis, Scotland, in February 2001; I’ve come to term this event as the ‘Call to Self’, my deeply personal, visceral “initiatory event”.

Surviving that c.800 ft fall planted the seed for the continuing evolutionary path which led me to Psychosynthesis, central to my coming to terms with that life-transforming day and its consequences, and ultimately bringing me into contact with others as a Guide (an relatively recent identification that has at times a curiously numinous quality).

My ‘journey’ with Psychosynthesis began without my even knowing of the existence of Assagioli’s ‘framework of becoming’, through being drawn to Carl Jung’s work, and Depth Psychology in general, in the Spring of 2012. I took a 5-day introduction to Psychosynthesis with the Psychosynthesis & Education Trust in London, and afterwards took a quiet step back from Psychosynthesis. I wasn’t aware that life coaching had a transpersonal element, so when I discovered that life coaching formed part of this year’s International Conference in Psychosynthesis’ agenda, I took a chance…more a leap of faith…booked my place, a flight and a hotel room, and trusted.

It was in Sicily that I met Didi and Jon, together with a whole bunch of like-minded folks, and took another leap of faith on the journey, to sign up to the Synthesis Center’s Transformational Life Coaching Program.” Since then I have certified, and integrate Psychosynthesis throughout all my work with fellow Travelers, in honoring their own Call of Self.

Besides my evolving Psychosynthesis practice, I have begun co-leading on one of the Synthesis Center’s coaching programs.

A couple quotes that really resonate right now, from seriousness to lightness

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back– Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”

Pathways to Action in Troubled Times:
Psychosynthesis and the Work that Reconnects

Saturday, June 17th, 1:00 – 3:00 PM EST (10:00 AM– 12:00 Pacific), Molly Young Brown, M.A., M.Div., will guide a live and interactive webinar via ZOOM that will invite participants to look honestly and clearly at their efforts in the arena of social change during these times of great political, social and environmental urgency.  We will engage psychosynthesis principles to identify the most vital work we feel called to do in the world; to dis-identify from what is holding us back from fully engaging in the arena to which we feel called, and to Self-identify as a member of the universal community of all beings, in order to receive support, increase accountability, and be witnessed in unfolding as engaged agents of change. Please join us as we explore these practices to honor our pain for the world, renew our gratitude for life, and find new paths of heart for the Great Turning toward a life sustaining society.

Target Audience:

  • Individuals who are feeling overwhelmed or anxious about the state of the world who want to move to inspired action, and
  • Change makers who are looking for new tools to increase effectiveness in their work and bring their particular gifts and skills forward in service of life.

Learning Objectives – Attendees will:

  • Identify personal, social, and spiritual challenges brought about by today’s environmental, social, and political realities;
  • Express one’s pain for the world and explore responses to it; and,
  • Utilize at least 2 psychosynthesis principles to experience increased engagement and develop resilience in responding to the global crises we face today.

Biography: Following initial training in psychosynthesis, Molly Young Brown had the privilege of studying with Dr. Roberto Assagioli, in 1973 (the year before he died). She has shared his teaching through many training programs, workshops in North America and Europe, and individual guiding sessions. Her books, The Unfolding Self: Psychosynthesis and Counseling and Growing Whole: Self-realization for the Great Turningare important contemporary presentations of the principles and practices of this material. Molly was on the first Steering Committee and has served on the Advisory Board and the Professional Development Committee for the Association for the Advancement of Psychosynthesis. When her interests developed to systems thinking and deep ecology, she worked with Joanna Macy, Ph.D., co-authoring Coming Back to Life: The Updated Guide to the Work That Reconnects.

Fee: Free for members, $25 for non-members

Internationella Psykosynteskonferensen 2016

Internationella Psykosynteskonferensen på Sicilien den 2-5 juni 2016

Dear Friends and Psychosynthesis Colleagues,

The Institute of Psychosynthesis of Italy, together with the Italian Society for Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy in Florence (S.I.P.T. – Società Italiana di Psicosintesi Terapeutica), is happy to announce the International Congress of Psychosynthesis that will be held from the 2nd to 5th June 2016 in the splendid setting of Taormina, Sicily.

Participants will be welcomed by truly mythical surroundings, immersed in the light of the Mediterranean and cradled in the glory of a culture reaching back over thousands of years. The sea and the ancient rock, with one of the most famous amphitheatres in the world, complete this setting, perfect for merging with the beauty of nature and continuing that dialogue of human creativity begun at our international congress of 2012 in Rome, at Rocca di Papa. There, in fact, as many of you will remember, the psychosynthesis community felt the urge to re-unite and recognize itself, and we witnessed this through the astonishing number of different contributions from so many psychosynthetists that came from all over the world. On that occasion “World” was precisely the word we questioned. It stimulated us in a congress that sewed many seeds for study and work together, even though they were scattered across immense geographical distances.

Today, along with our call to this congress, we want to launch that invitation again and observe with what new vision and renewed instruments we have worked, both in the single national psychosynthesis communities as well as in the worldwide psychosynthesis realities. Many links were created between centers of psychosynthesis in different countries and continents and we feel that the time has come to taste the fruits from the first crop harvested after the germination of the seeds that were sown, and to reflect upon the paths of the goals along the evolution of Humanity. We shall question ourselves on the contribution that psychosynthesis can offer those goals, with its transpersonal vision that integrates and goes beyond the conscience of nations, to the level of international attitudes and even further, within a planetary network.

What signs have we captured of something new already advancing, in the many areas of our planet? In what way can psychosynthesis contribute to building a just and beautiful Future, and how can it perceive the Future coming towards us? What is the nucleus of psychosynthesis that we will continue to share, even through the transformations taking place? We shall take a look at the Future of psychosynthesis. These are the elements inspiring the 2016 International Congress.

We intend to continue with the interesting experience of the Co-creative Groups, introducing a new sector on “The Advancement of Things New”, and we propose a series of topics along which to develop relations and Group work. A session of the Congress will be dedicated to the innovations made by psychosynthesis friends to the map of the egg and the position of the Transpersonal Self. We believe that it is important to discuss this point together and that the air and atmosphere in Taormina will remind us of our love for the culture of dialogue, so dear to the Greeks and to Magna Grecia and that we will be sustained and nourished. Our different opinions will allow for the union of opposites, capable of accomplishing “the miracle of living between the two, achieving the nous without losing the soul; entering into freedom as deeply as possible without annihilating nor humiliating the life of our guts” as the philosopher Maria Zambrano so well puts it. We will know how to dialogue, and from our multiplicity move towards unity with the precious quality of humility, with the courage to dream truths not as yet manifest, aware of being born to the world to complete our existence as unique, original souls, and to participate in the realization of a fully humane society.

On the wave of these reflections, it is our wish that enthusiastic biopsychosynthetic work be prepared and shared between us all.
